Kees Bourgondiën is an expert in combining operational CBRN requirements and questions regarding policy, doctrine, education and training. In 1975 he became an officer in the Royal Netherlands Army. He held different infantry positions in a broad spectrum inside the Ministry of Defence (MoD). He was on mission abroad to Lebanon and former Yugoslavia.

From 1994 until 1999 he was chief NBC section of the first (NL) Division “7 December” and from 1999 until 2003 he was Branch Chief NBC Defence and Environmental Protection of the German Netherlands Corps in Münster.

Between 2003 and 2010 Lieutenant Colonel Bourgondiën was Commander of the Joint CBRN Centre of Expertise. In this role he was responsible for the policy and doctrine, education and training, operational requirements and the conduct of the scientific research in the CBRN field. The Joint CBRN Centre of Expertise is part of the staff of the Netherlands Ministry of Defence.

He represented the Netherlands Ministry of Defence as expert of CBRN Defence in all kinds of national and international meetings, for example as head of delegation of the NATO CBRN working group.

Since January 1st 2011 Kees Bourgondiën is retired from the MoD and joined IB Consultancy as Principal Consultant.
